We need sleep to help our body renew cells , repair muscles, build cartilage and regulate our hormones, also reduce body weight, reduce our risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. Yes it does all of these things. Provided we are exercising and eating well too. Having a set routine early to bed and early to rise helps our immune function and regulate our body clock. With these in place we should be able to sleep 6-8 hrs well, the recommendation for a healthy well balanced life. Go to bed at the same time every night and set your alarm for the same time every day. Within half an hour of each other is fine, having a similar bed time and wake time routine daily is important for our equilibrium.
